How to Bow or Curtsey

When you meet the Queen, you should bow or curtsey. A bow is a slight inclination of the head, while a curtsey is a deeper bow that involves bending your knees.

To bow, stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. Bend your head forward slightly, keeping your eyes down. Hold the bow for a moment, then return to an upright position.

To curtsey, stand up straight with your feet together. Bend your knees slightly and lower your body until your thighs are parallel to the ground. Keep your back straight and your head up. Hold the curtsey for a moment, then return to an upright position.

If you are wearing a hat, remove it before bowing or curtseying. Hold the hat in your left hand, with the brim facing up.

What to Say

When you meet the Queen, you should address her as "Your Majesty." You can also say "Good morning," "Good afternoon," or "Good evening." Do not shake the Queen's hand unless she offers it to you.

If you are invited to speak with the Queen, keep your conversation brief and to the point. Avoid talking about controversial topics or sharing personal information.

What to Avoid

There are a few things you should avoid ng when meeting the Queen.

  • Do not touch the Queen or her clothing.
  • Do not turn your back on the Queen.
  • Do not interrupt the Queen when she is speaking.
  • Do not chew gum or eat in front of the Queen.
  • Do not take photographs of the Queen without her permission.

Meeting the Queen is a special occasion that should be cherished. By following proper royal etiquette, you can make a good impression and create a lasting memory.
